The busy day of travel has now begun as the last big A wave of Thanksgiving air travelers are returning home Wednesday before Thanksgiving holiday.

Some hotspots were threatening travelers but, overall, flight forecasts were good for most of the United States.

At the national level, only 40 flights were canceled and approximately 175 were delayed at 7:30 am ET, according to the FlightAware Flight Tracker. Both numbers are incredibly small, although they are likely to slow down during the day.

It depends on how the day unfolds in the few areas where bad weather is possible.

In the west, a storm moving off the Pacific was expected to cause heavy rains over large areas of California. With the forecast, San Francisco was the most at risk of delays.

In the east, the busy airports around New York and Philadelphia could experience sporadic delays in the afternoon due to the expected strong winds in this region.

Wednesday marks the second consecutive day of generally mild weather in the perspective of Thanksgiving. On Tuesday, about 185 flights were canceled across the country and there were about 650 delays, two small counts compared to a national program pushing 30,000 peak days.

Tuesday's biggest problems came in Seattle, where more than 75 combined arrivals and departures were canceled under foggy conditions. About a quarter of Tuesday's flights were delayed in Boston Tuesday due to windy and cloudy weather.
