A pair of NFC East teams attempted to take over Wednesday by participating in the annual NFL draft .

Alexander is a massive (6-3, 207) which could be measured against receivers like Alshon Jeffery of Philadelphia or Evan Engram of the Giants. Alexander has had seven INTs in three seasons for the Hokies, but has struggled with academics, was caught using marijuana in 2016 and suspended two games in 2017 for breaking the rules of the team. Still, his arrival could help offset the loss of former teammate Tech Kendall Fuller, who the Redskins traded to Kansas City as part of the acquisition of quarterback Alex Smith

Taking Beal and Alexander, the Giants and Redskins will lose the third and sixth round selections respectively in the NFL draft in 2019.

"We feel like we're getting our third round pick now," Gettleman said. "We had basically a draft meeting at the office, with people on the speaker who had seen it."

The other players eligible for the draft were Wednesday's Brandon Bryant, the goaltender.
