Engram was injured when he was hit by the defensive back of the Texans Kareem Jackson after a catch-up. Engram left the field after winning 19 yards, his only catch of the day.
The tight second-year finish was checked by the coaches and made some light sprints on the sideline. It seemed like he could come back.
The Giants originally thought it was uncertain for him to come back before the final decision was made to keep him for the rest of the contest. Engram said that "did not feel well". After the match, he wore a corset in his right knee and said he would undergo additional tests on Monday to determine the damage.
Engram had nine passes for 85 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. He was not the only Giants position player to fight the Texans.
Rookie rookie Saquon Barkley missed a series in the first quarter after being hit in the knee on the first outing, which ended with a 15-yard touchdown. Barkley finished with 17 runs for 82 yards and added five catches for 35 yards in the team's first win of the season.
Barkley came back after missing the Giants' second offensive training.
