DENVER – Trevor Story scored his first three attacks, including one shot over 500 feet, and the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-3 on Wednesday night.

Story, an All-Star shortstop, had the chance to catch up with the league's top four-circuit record in one game, but was eliminated in his eighth-round final.

Story propelled Colorado to its fifth victory in a row, and the Rockies increased their lead in the western part of the Ligue 1 against 1 against Arizona and Los Angeles. The Diamondbacks were inactive and the Dodgers lost to the New York Mets.

This was the first three-race match in Story's career and his fifth multihomer game this season. The defeat was made at the expense of Giants starter Andrew Suarez (6-10).

Story's first home race, a 459-foot shot to the left field, according to Statcast, gave the Rockies a 2-1 lead in the first run. He surpassed that with another solo circuit in the fourth quarter that ran about 505 feet. This was the longest franchise history circuit and the longest since Statcast began tracking distances in 2015.

His last home run – and his 31st season – jumped 416 feet and gave Colorado a 4-3 lead.

Harrison Musgrave (2-3) took the win and Adam Ottavino took ninth place for his sixth stop.

Aramis Garcia went away for San Francisco, who lost five straight games.

The start of the match was delayed by 68 minutes in the rain.

AVERAGE DANGER

Rockies fielder Charlie Blackmon scared his team when he was hit in the helmet by teammate Antonio Senzatela in the third inning. Blackmon was on deck when the ball hit him near the team logo at the front of his helmet. He was watched by a coach and manager, Bud Black, but was able to stay in the game. Blackmon received a loud ovation when he came for bats.

TRAINER ROOM

Giants: SS Brandon Crawford was out of the lineup with a sore knee. Manager Bruce Bochy said the knee had upset Crawford recently and San Francisco had a day off Thursday so he should be able to return on Friday.

FOLLOWING

Giants: LHP Derek Holland (7-8, 3.56 ERA) will start when San Francisco open a three-game series in Milwaukee on Friday. Holland is 2-0 with an average of 2.42 in their last eight starts.

Rockies: RHP Jon Gray (11-7, 4.70) will take on Clayton Kershaw when Colorado enters a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
