If it was not enough to win a Emmy award Monday night Glenn Weiss, for the best director for the special variety, took a step further at the ceremony on Monday by presenting a proposal for marriage to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen. While hundreds of celebrities acclaimed themselves at the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater, many others were watching the moving moment on live television.
During his Emmy Award acceptance speech, Weiss said that his mother had died two weeks ago and that winning an Emmy was bittersweet. He also said that his mother loved his girlfriend, which motivated the epic wedding proposal.
"Are you wondering why I do not like calling my girlfriend? Because I want to call my wife," Weiss said in applause.
Svendsen said yes and at the same time raised the bar for each couple … at least for the next two weeks.
