CHICAGO – Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson set a new NBA record by beating 14 points at 3 points on Monday night against the Chicago Bulls.
Thompson scored 14 points out of 24 beyond the arc and 18 of 29 in the pack, scoring 52 points in 27 minutes, while raining the ball from all over.
Thompson was cheered by the United Center crowd after breaking the triple record, breaking the mark of teammate Stephen Curry, who scored 13 points at 3 points in a game.
Thompson broke the record by wearing a headband. It was a rare sight that resulted from a cut in the head after a collision in the third quarter with the center of the Warriors, Damian Jones.
The injury, according to the NBC Sports Bay Area show, required two stitches.
Shortly after breaking the record, he was replaced and went to the locker room for treatment before returning and sitting on the bench.
In the first half, Thompson's 10 points tied Chandler Parsons' record set in 2014. The Warriors also set an NBA record for the 3 points scored in the half by defeating 17 first-half goals.
It's the fourth time in his career that he scores at least 30 points in a half, the 11th time he's scored at least 40 in a game and the third time at least 50.
