Google Doodle gives advice on the National Day of Voter Registration

Google uses National Voter Registration Day to encourage Americans to sign up to vote in time for the 2018 midterm elections.

On Tuesday, the Google home page featured a Google Doodle with a number of patriotic buttons and a message that prompted viewers to register before the November 6 elections. The link leads to a tool on Google that provides basic information on how individuals in each state can register to vote – and the deadlines for doing so. Users can also simply search for "how to register to vote #RegisterToVote" to access the information.

The mid-term of 2018 is critical as Democrats attempt to regain control of the House of Representatives, while Republicans work to maintain their position there and in the Senate.

Google also used its Google Doodle to trigger voter registration in September 2016 – again on National Voter Registration Day – before the 2016 presidential election.

The National Voters Registration Day is an awareness campaign held every second Tuesday of September to encourage Americans to register to vote. The organization originally said volunteers will appear in the country to help people register. Local businesses and other organizations will also participate.

Politicians and activists have come out en masse on social media, in speeches and messages of public interest to urge Americans to sign up before the mid-term elections of 2018. During the Summer, the young activists of March For Our Lives took the road for a bus ride around the country, registering young people to vote in each city.
