Google Doodle today is a reminder to register to vote

Google wants you to vote.

To make sure that happens, they've created a Google Doodle campaign button to remind you to sign up. Tuesday, September 25 is the National Day for Voter Registration in the United States and marks six weeks for the November 6 mid-term elections. Doodle clicks on a Google (googl) search on "how to register to vote #RegisterToVote", where resources are available to help users know if they have the right to vote and how to do it.

US citizens over the age of 18 who meet certain conditions, such as not committing a crime, have the right to vote, whether or not they currently reside in the United States. The National Voter Registration Day tool itself can help users know if you have the right to vote and have them registered in their state, as can vote.gov.

The campaign is set against a backdrop of growing controversy over "purges" of voter lists and other practices such as the requirement for voters to have certain forms of identification in certain states. Proponents of these practices say they help prevent electoral fraud, but opponents say they are a way to suppress voting, especially among the poor.

The time to register to vote varies by state.
