Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant condemns a high school group for a half-time football performance that he described as "unacceptable in a civilized society".
Many say that the performance of the Forest Hill High School group on Friday night represented students dressed as doctors and nurses pointing toy guns at members of the SWAT team on the ground, reported WLBT- TV.
Bryant released his sentence Saturday in a tweet.
The performance took place at Brookhaven High School, where two police officers were killed in the line of duty on September 29, in response to a gun call, the station reported.
The Mayor of Brookhaven said the band's director had been put on administrative leave, the station reported.
According to reports, the performance relied vaguely on the film "John Q", in which a father played by Denzel Washington took patients hostage in a hospital to treat his son.
"The group's performance did not reflect the values and members of our community and was incredibly insensitive to students, families, law enforcement and the wider Brookhaven community., " Jackson's superintendent, Errick Greene, said.
He also apologized.
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba also issued a statement.
"I offer my sincerest regrets to the Brookhaven community for the insensitivity illustrated during the half-time show on Friday night. There is an active investigation into the circumstances that led to this performance, "he said, according to the station.
