Grandmother in detention for the baby's death

The sheriff of Bolivar County, Kelvin Williams, said that a grandmother was detained in connection with the infant's death. The name of the grandmother is not published because no formal charge has been filed to date.

The child has been identified as a girl of 20 months. The identity of the girl is not revealed at the moment.

The sheriff said the girl's body was sent to the organized crime lab for an autopsy.

The state pathologist will have to determine if the child had died before being placed in the oven or vice versa.

SHAW, Miss. (WTVA) – A person is in custody after a baby has been stabbed, placed in an oven and baked, according to the sheriff of Bolivar County.

Emergency dispatchers received the call after 19 hours. Monday, Sheriff Kelvin Williams said. The police and sheriff's deputies found the baby in a Martin Luther King Drive residence. The age of the baby is not clear yet.

The suspect is sitting at the regional correctional facility in Bolivar County, according to Williams. The relationship of this person with the baby is not relaxed at the moment, and it is unclear when the crime actually took place.

The Mississippi Investigation Bureau and the State Crime Lab have been called to investigate.
