LAKE TWP. A local, not-for-profit organization is looking for donors, volunteers and advocates to help children in the area affected by cancer in September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Project Ed Bear is a volunteer-run non-profit organization that provides gifts and experiences to children diagnosed with cancer, including cubs, holiday items, and end-of-life parties. The organization was formed by an 11-year-old boy and his mother, Susan Summerville, after the boy's stay in the hospital after a diagnosis of non-cancerous bone tumors throughout the body.
The organization is requesting that donations of new books or coloring books be deposited in Lucky Shoes stores for donations to the Akron Children's Hospital book library. Find store locations at LuckyShoes.com.
Proponents are also encouraged to wear gold, color the infant cancer awareness, and use the #ProjectEdBear hashtag on social media.
Donations to Project Ed Bear are also invited to ProjectEdBear.org.
