Gurley gives win to undefeated Rams and Patriots to bring leaders down in fierce battle

Los Angeles (AFP) – Todd Gurley recorded a total of 208 yards and two touchdowns, while the Los Angeles Rams improved to 6-0 on Sunday with a 23-20 victory over the Denver Broncos in the NFL.

Gurley scored his 10th and 11th touchdowns of the season, and quarterback Jared Goff completed 14 of 28 passes for 201 yards for the Rams, which gave the Broncos their fourth straight loss.

"Everyone did their job to open holes and I took care of the rest," said Gurley. "It's 6-0 that says a lot about this team."

The Kansas City Chiefs were trying to join the Rams at the top of the standings, but their perfect season was ruined when they faced Tom Brady and the dreaded New England Patriots.

At the end of the allotted time, Stephen Gostkowski scored a goal and Brady rushed for 340 yards as the Patriots suffered their first loss with a 43-40 win at Gillette Stadium.

"I'm glad we had our last shot and glad we took advantage," said Brady.

The Broncos-Rams game was played in cool conditions of -3 Celsius (25 Fahrenheit) at Mile High Stadium after a nightly snow storm in the Denver area.

Gurley's first touchdown was a 10-yard run that gave the Rams a 13-3 lead at half-time. His second was a meter scamper that made 20-3.

Rams receiver Cooper Kupp was fired from the field after suffering a left knee injury in the second quarter, but came back in the second half. It will be evaluated by team doctors on Monday.

The Rams finished their three-game road trip to San Francisco to face the 49ers in trouble next Sunday.

Meanwhile, quarterback leader Patrick Mahomes racked up 352 yards and four touchdowns to trade and equalize late, but the Patriots responded with Gostkowski's goal placement as time ran out.

Brady had a touchdown and a tackle while receiver Rob Gronkowski finished with 97 yards for the Patriots. His last catch was a clutch and was the 500th of his career.

Brady recorded his 200th regular season career win and also surpassed former teammate Adam Vinatieri for most regular-season career victories and series combined with 227.

"We have a lot of clutch players, and I think we have no problem with it," Brady said. "That's what the football season is all about."

New England led 24-9 at the half, but Mahomes went to work in the second half. He made four touchdowns and finished 23 of 36 attempts for 352 yards in his first loss as a starting quarterback.

In addition, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger beat Antonio Brown for a 31-yard touchdown with 10 seconds left to bring the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 28-21 win over the Bengals in Cincinnati.

Brown's capture was crowned by the Steelers at the last minute. They started their own 23-yard line with 72 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Roethlisberger is put to work with the 21-20 Steelers on the ground. He first hit JuJu Smith-Schuster for eight yards. He returned to Smith-Schuster for 10 yards and then connected with him in the middle for 23 more yards.

Brown then shot in the long run and ran behind Justin Hunter's block without ever slowing down. Pittsburgh added a two-point conversion when Roethlisberger hit Smith-Schuster in the end zone.

Roethlisberger said that he could say when he lined up for the slam that the Bengals thought blitz.

"When you see that look, how fast can I get him the ball," Roethlisberger said.

In other games, rookie kicker Jason Sanders scored a 47-yard overtime goal to bring the Miami Dolphins to a 31-28 win over the Chicago Bears.

In London, England, Russell Wilson scored three touchdowns and the Seattle Seahawks took a 27-3 victory over the Oakland Raiders in front of 84,900 spectators.
