Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk have this wedding story since the first day.

When they first saw all the details of their intimate wedding on September 29 on the actress's lifestyle site, Goop, the couple revealed that he had made a "compromise" in choosing a wedding cake.

Paltrow and Falchuk (or "the Faltrows") served 45 individual carrot cakes (at the choice of the bride) and 45 chocolate and vanilla cakes (at the groom's choice) prepared by Brooklyn-based bakery Nine Cakes.

The mini-desserts were decorated with white frosting in a nude cake style and placed on white plates from the Vista Alegre porcelain collection, as shown on the couple's 47-slide wedding gallery on Goop.com.

In addition to the wedding treats at Amagansett, N.Y., Mario Carbone prepared the dinner menu consisting of crab avocado salad; tortellini with langoustines; choice between a duck with honey mustard and a rib of beef; and the sides of the potatoes roasted with duck fat, whipped potatoes and vegetable succotash. Having the chef for his big day was "a very special moment of complete circle" as the couple had one of his first appointments in one of his restaurants.

Guests including Cameron Diaz and her husband Benji Madden, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, Steven Spielberg, Rob Lowe and Robert Downey Jr. were also invited to enjoy dirty martinis, gin cocktails and Ruinart champagne.

Paltrow wore a custom Valentino Couture lace dress with feminine capes, an illusion neckline and an open back for the ceremony before turning into a Stella McCartney short jumpsuit for a dance night.

The night before the couple's rehearsal dinner, Argentine chef Francis Mallmann took the lead in the kitchen.

He created a "fire menu" featuring an entire rib eye on the bone with a chimichurri; hung chicken with Criolla salsa and hanging cabbage; whole lamb with gremolata sauce; large wild salmon in salt crust with tartar sauce; Butternut squash cooked in ashes, sweet potatoes and onions; and baked beets with potatoes, carrots and fennel.

In January, Paltrow opened the door for PEOPLE to plan her wedding, admitting that she was amazed at what her wedding would look like.

"I'm excited for everything! I have never had a wedding before. So, even though I'm 45, I feel a bit like a 21-year-old girl, "she said.

Paltrow had previously left her husband, Chris Martin, in 2003. They share two children, their daughter Apple and their son Moses, 12 years old. They "consciously dissociated" in 2014 and have remained friendly ever since.
