Grosjean was unhurt, however, his Haas F1 car suffered considerable damage.
The session was to be marked in red.
Haas started insurance proceedings against the Sepang circuit, claiming damages, the case having finally been settled at the beginning of the week.
"I can say that we have settled down," Guenther Steiner team leader revealed. "Their insurance was good and we are happy.
"They were very professional and took on their responsibilities.
"We are not really surprised [by the time taken] to be honest, it's been about a year now, but it's a strange case, probably the first of its kind.
"These things always take time."
It was a busy Friday in Russia for Haas who also confirmed that Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen were their 2019 drivers.
