Deegan's victory at the NASCAR K & N Pro Series West race on Saturday night at the Meridian Speedway in Idaho was the first of her career and the first by a woman in the history of the series.
The only other woman to win a NASCAR series was Shawna Robinson, who won three wins in the late Dash series, the last in 1989.
"Oh my god," said 17-year-old Deegan at Victory Lane after the race. "It must be the best day of my life here. It's not better than that.
"People do not understand how many days, how many hours have been spent on this. How much work have I done to arrive at this moment. It's just amazing. It's the happiest day of my life.
"We did it."
Victory did not come without drama.
Deegan led the group and Bill McAnally Racing teammate Cole Rouse at the start of the final lap when both drivers took the lead in turn 1. Deegan entered Rouse and pushed him aside to pass the pass for the head and win.
"I knew exactly what I had to do there. I was doing it to other people who had just put themselves under their weight to light them up a bit, not to demolish them, nothing crazy, but enough to put them a little underneath and make sure that the pass is possible, "she said.
"I knew exactly what I had to do on the last lap. I did it, we executed it and we managed it. "
Rouse was not happy to have finished second.
"We were going in turn 1 and she does not get up and do not drag me, she takes me completely to the side," said Rouse. "We were going to win this race if it went without fail, but unfortunately it was not."
At the cross-country race in Las Vegas two weeks ago, Deegan became the first woman to win a pole of the series and finished the night with a second best of her career. She now ranks fifth in the Western series with two races in the 2018 season.
Deegan grew up in an off-road and off-road race, but moved to the asphalt competition in 2016 to pursue a career in the stock car race. She is the daughter of Brian Deegan, motocross racer, off-road racer and former X Games athlete.
