"All these costumes are basically leggings," notes Brown laughing through the top 10 solo costumes. Tonya Harding is the number 1 solo this year. Brown admits that she is not the type to sew and that she does not perceive herself particularly well in the field of craftsmanship. But she and her team at Pinterest take Halloween "very seriously."
She goes to thrift stores to make her costumes.
"I rely a lot on goodwill," she says. "If I want to be a cat, I can find inexpensive pieces with a cat print and all I need to do is make or buy cat ears and do it. "I've done wacky stuff without sewing anything," says Jeanine Murch, a Brooklyn-based artist. "A mermaid's tail tape, fairy wings illuminated by hangers, tights and LED lights; octopus tentacles from hangers and bubble wrap; a patchwork dress made of felt and a wool wig, as an example. "
Even those who know how to sew give up the tedious process of making a hot glue gun and some markers, items that digital producer Lauren Reid in Brooklyn calls "your best friends" for Halloween.
"Our group friend costume this year is Batman. I am Robin and I plan to use a yellow trash bag, a poncho and a clipped plastic tablecloth, "says Reid. "I'm going to get a red T-shirt in my closet or in a thrift store and I'll do the details in felt. Daisy Luther, a blogger from Virginia, says she "can not sew for her life," but she has made great costumes for her two daughters.
