A Harvest Moon illuminated the night sky on Monday, welcoming the seasonal shift with the first full moon closest to the autumn equinox.

When fall arrives, the first full moon closest to the season's arrival is generally known as the Harvest Moon, allowing farmers to harvest late at night thanks to the brightness of our lunar neighbor, according to NASA.

In the most weather-prone areas, skywatchers were treated to a stunning display Monday night, with many images shared on social networks. And in case you did not catch the event, NASA said the moon would be full until Wednesday morning.

Here are some pictures of Harvest Moon doing the social media tour.
