ATLANTA (AP) – Matt Harvey threw six strokes in the seventh inning, winning consecutive wins for the first time this season and leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-3 win against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.
Jesse Winker had three hits and two runs for last place, Cincinnati, who won eight out of nine. Gennett's scooter had two hits, including a scoring ninth in the rank, and scored three times.
Harvey (3-5) had a 6 2/3 inning heat during his longest start to the season. He ended his troubles in the fourth quarter when he allowed Tyler Flowers' double to score before failing two baserunners.
It was Harvey's ninth start with the Reds after he was acquired in an exchange with the New York Mets on May 8th. He allowed two points in a 6-2 win over the Cubs on Thursday.
The last time Harvey took part in consecutive starts, it was May 23 and May 28, 2017, for Mets against Padres and Pirates.
The Reds led 4-1 before Atlanta scored two points in the eighth. Ender Inciarte touched one who bounced off Amir Garrett's left leg, sending him to the ground and out of the game. Ozzie Albies doubled before Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis produced scoring strandings.
Raisel Iglesias scored the eighth final on Johan Camargo's ball on the right court with runners in first and second place, then started the ninth for his 14th stop.
Anibal Sanchez (3-2) left with two outs in the fifth inning due to cramping in his right calf. He allowed two runs and five hits in 4 innings and 2/3.
TRAINER ROOM
Red: X-rays on Garrett's left leg were negative. Garrett tried to chase deflection before falling to the ground in pain.
Braves: The RHP Arodys Vizcaino (inflammation of the right shoulder) felt well caught and should launch on the mound when the team will start a weekend streak in St. Louis on Friday. If all goes well, Vizcaino could come out of the 10-day DL on Sunday. "I see no reason at the moment, he would not be ready," said manager Brian Snitker.
SHORT VISIT
Right-hander Lucas Sims was sent back to Triple-A Gwinnett just three days after his promotion. Matt Wisler was recalled from Gwinnett and allowed a race in 2 1/3 innings after replacing Sanchez in the fifth.
NEW ROLE
Brandon Finnegan, the southpaw southpaw, is assigned to a relief post at Triple-A in Louisville. Finnegan had a 7.40 MPM with Cincinnati when he was sent to miners on May 8, and he has a 7.24 ERA with Louisville.
"We need to bring him into a role where he can still be successful," said Dick Williams, president of baseball operations.
Williams said Finnegan was "very receptive" to the new role.
FOLLOWING
Reds: RHP Luis Castillo (5-8, 5.70 ERA) will start Wednesday in the final of the three-game series. He allowed two runs in four sets in his only pre-game against the Braves, an 8-1 loss on August 20, 2017.
Braves: LHP Sean Newcomb (8-2, 2.59 ERA) is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in two career starts against the Reds.
