Severe to severe storms spread in Massachusetts on Friday.
Rain showers began during the night in southern New England with heavy rains expected Friday and a second round Friday night to Saturday morning. Most communities in Massachusetts are likely to receive rainfall of two to three inches by Saturday morning.
In case of heavy rainfall, there is a risk of localized river and localized floods, warns the National Weather Service. There is an isolated tornado risk with severe thunderstorms, although the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center indicates that the risk is low.
On Saturday afternoon, strong winds will be of concern in central and western Massachusetts. The National Weather Service has issued a wind alert for the following Massachusetts counties: Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcester.
Winds with gusts up to 60 miles at the hour are possible from Saturday afternoon to evening.
"Strong winds will bring down trees and power lines," said the National Meteorological Service. "General power outages are expected and travel will be difficult, especially for prestige vehicles."
