Norway evacuated the entire crew of one of its warships after colliding with a tanker in a fjord.

Seven people were slightly injured in Thursday's crash in Hjeltefjord near Bergen, relief workers said. The frigate is listed dangerously.

KNM Helgeelge Ingstad was returning from NATO's military exercises.

The tanker, Sola TS, was only slightly damaged and it seems that it did not spill oil.

The cause of the collision, which would have occurred shortly after 04:00 (03:00 GMT), was not immediately understood, and 137 people had been taken away from the warship.

The Maltese – flagged vessel had left Equinor 's Sture oil shipping terminal with a cargo of crude from the North Sea, reports the Reuters news agency.

Sture, a major oil terminal for export, has been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.

An unnamed official informed the AFP news agency that a "small slick of oil" had been detected in the frigate.

"It took a lot of water and there is a real danger that it flows where it is located," said the manager.

The tanker, which has 23 crew members, was returning to the port for inspection.
