The Sacramento County Public Health Division is looking for a woman who came into contact with a bat that tested positive for rabies in a target at Rancho Cordova on September 19th.
According to Sacramento County spokeswoman Brenda Bongiorno, the woman is reported to have found the bat on target at 10881 Olson Drive.
The bat has been tested by Rancho Cordova's animal control and has proven positive for rabies, said Bongiorno, although it's unclear if the woman was bitten.
The Public Health Division asks anyone who recognizes the woman or has information about the incident to immediately call (916) 875-5881.
Many rabid bats were found in downtown Sacramento last month, making it the second case of possible exposure to rabies in less than two months.
A press release issued by the Division of Public Health advised anyone who sees sick or dead bats to stay away and calls 311 because bats are the most common carriers rabies.
