The Florida Department of Health discovered a hepatitis A infection at one of the food service employees of the Morimoto Asia restaurant in Disney Springs. The Walt Disney World restaurant is located in the downtown area of the shopping district, and officials say everyone who dined there earlier this month may have been exposed to it.
according to WFTV 9anyone who dined at Morimoto Asia and consumed food or drink between November 6 and 16, 2018 may have been exposed to the virus. It is unclear if other people than the food service worker have been infected, but they encourage everyone to get vaccinated and get tested for the virus.
Morimoto Asia is located at 1600 E. Buena Vista Drive, in the middle of Disney Springs – near several other restaurants.
The Florida health department said Wednesday that anyone with the following symptoms should immediately see a doctor.
- Fever
- Diarrhea
- Dark urine
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
- Sudden abdominal discomfort
- Exhaustion or fatigue
- Loss of appetite
Officials also said that anyone who has ever had hepatitis A – or who has received two doses of the vaccine against hepatitis A – does not need to be immunized again. For the moment, the authorities recommend that even those who do not have any symptoms consult a doctor.

Kent Donahue is the spokesperson for the state's Department of Health. He issued a statement regarding hepatitis A infection. He also mentioned some precautions that those who dined at Morimoto Asia during these dates should take.
"The vaccine against hepatitis A or immunoglobulins (IG) can offer protection against the disease if they are administered within two weeks of exposure … Therefore, those who have eaten food or drinks at the restaurant between November 6 and November 16, 2018 should: promptly contact their health care provider to receive the vaccine. "
Since June 2018, the authorities have seen a dramatic increase in the number of hepatitis A infections in Orange County, Florida. In fact, the number of cases is almost 5,000% higher than the average of the previous five years, or 1.4 cases per year.
