NASA has released this new close-up photo of the swirling clouds found on Jupiter. He was captured by the Juno spacecraft on October 29, 2018 during his 16th close flyby of the gas giant.
The clouds in the photo were seen in the north-north temperate Jupiter Belt (NNTB), one of the distinct cloud bands.
The white oval that we see in the photo is a storm anticyclonic.
Juno captured this photo by flying at a distance of about 7,000 km (4,400 miles) from the top of the clouds. It is a little over half of the Earth away from Jupiter, which is extremely close to the fact that Jupiter's diameter is 142,884 km.
