A young mother with cancer is honored after her decision to refuse chemotherapy to save her unborn child ultimately cost her life.
Gemma Nuttall died Sunday at the age of 29 after five years of fighting an aggressive form of ovarian cancer, The sun reported.

The disease was diagnosed for the first time in Nuttall during his 16-week ultrasound visit, during which doctors advised him to discontinue his child so that he could begin the treatment. She refused, insisting that the treatment be postponed after the birth of her child.
After the birth of his daughter, Penelope, Nuttall began what was going to be an extremely difficult journey.
The story of this courageous mother eventually caught the attention of Hollywood royalty, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, who raised money to pay for Nuttall's immunotherapy treatments. After some initial success, the cancer came back strong and the young mother was transferred to a hospice earlier this month.
According to the Sun, Helen Sproates, mother of Gemma, confirmed the death of his daughter during the weekend in a Facebook post.
"It is with a broken heart that I must tell you all that my beautiful warrior lost her battle early this morning," wrote Sproates. "We fought so hard, but we could not do it anymore. I am a very proud mother but devastated for the moment. Sleep well Gemma – My world will never be the same again.
"Gemma was such a beacon of strength and led this incredibly difficult battle, with grace and dignity all along," said Kate Winslet, whose own mother was fighting the disease at the same time, Daily mail following the tragic news. "It was a privilege for me to be able to enter his life for a brief stay and try to help him. My heart breaks for his mother, Helen and his daughter Penelope. They lost a wonderful mother and daughter.
Nuttall's funeral will be held on October 30th, the Lancashire Telegraph announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that people make a donation to the Gemma Rose Foundation, which will help other families fight the deadly disease.
