MINNEAPOLIS – Authorities are investigating after the explosion of a house in St. Paul on Friday morning, throwing debris in the vicinity, reported the CBS WCCO station.

A victim was found inside and taken to a nearby hospital. The condition of the victim was not known immediately. Eight adult neighbors were moved, some with broken windows.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:40 am Friday at the intersection of Payne Ave. and Edgerton St. in St. Paul. According to the St. Paul Fire Department, the explosion caused a lot of damage to the surrounding structures.

Fire crews worked to determine the extent of the damage and worked with Xcel Energy crews to cut a gas line. The St. Paul Fire Chief stated that he thought the fire crews had saved a dog and a cat, and that they were both alive.

Fred Yarusso, a nearby restaurant owner, told WCCO that he was preparing to embark on his business when the explosion occurred. He said that he thought he had been hit and that the explosion was incredibly strong.

This is a story in development and will be updated.
