Republican President of the Judiciary Committee, Bob Goodlatte, asked Rod Rosenstein to discuss a report that the Deputy Attorney General said he was willing to secretly record President Donald Trump.
The September 21 report by the New York Times quoted sources as saying that Rosenstein wanted to expose the chaos to the White House and could eventually use the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office.
"There are a lot of questions we have for Mr. Rosenstein, including questions about the allegations made against him in a recent press article," Goodlatte said in a statement posted on his official website Friday. The two men agreed to meet in the coming weeks.
Rosenstein denied any claim that he suggested spying on Trump or seeking to remove him from office.
He should meet Trump one-on-one to talk about it. Trump said this week that he would prefer not to dismiss Rosenstein, who is currently overseeing special advocate Robert Mueller, the career prosecutor charged with investigating Russia.
