Houston-based company plans collaboration on space exercise technology

Houston-based Axiom Space, which is working on the construction of a commercial space station, announced Monday a partnership with a Danish company to collaborate on the technology of exercises and the monitoring of human performance in space.

Axiom agreed to use the systems of Danish Aerospace Co. during its first mission to the International Space Station. The press release did not specify when this mission would take place, although the newspaper Chronicle has previously indicated that for $ 55 million, Axiom will send people to the International Space Station from 2020.

NASA in August announced that Axiom was one of 13 companies selected to study the future of commercial spaceborne commercial flights in low Earth orbit, including opportunities for the International Space Station.

Axiom plans to send humans to the International Space Station, increase the demand for commercial opportunities in low Earth orbit, and then contribute to the transition from the International Space Station funded by the government to the Axiom station.

Danish Aerospace builds wireless physiological monitors and compact exercise equipment that can support humans in space and other extreme environments.

Both companies will also explore the use of Danish Aerospace's FERGO ergometer and its multifunctional exercise system on the future Axiom station. Danish Aerospace previously developed ergometers, weight machines, used in the space shuttle program.
