A Texas company said that one of its pipelines had dumped more than 8,000 gallons of jet fuel into a northeastern Indiana river in Decatur.
Buckeye Pipe Line, based in Houston, said she had immediately closed the line Friday night when she detected a pressure problem.
The fuel spilled into the St. Marys River in Decatur, a community of about 9,500 residents located about 100 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Local authorities said floating dams had been placed in the river to contain the fuel that was being sucked into the water's surface.

Decatur Mayor Kenneth L. Meyer says cleaning may take weeks.
The US Environmental Protection Agency has indicated that it monitors the air in neighborhoods and businesses near the river. The EPA said it also monitored the water quality in several downstream locations.
