HOUSTON – Houston has greeted the military veterans Sunday with several events to celebrate the men and women who are fighting for freedom and freedom.
The first event was held at 10 am with a health fair around the reflection pond at Hermann Square at City Hall.
At 10:45, the city launched a ceremony with a salute of 21 guns and a minute of silence in memory of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice of the First World War. Dozens of veterans, family members and community members came to participate in the annual event. Mayor Sylvester Turner, Representative Al Green and several members of City Council were among the participants.
Retired Lieutenant General Larry Wyche, a guest speaker, told the crowd that veterans should be thanked and celebrated beyond a calendar day.
"Our veterans should never have to fight alone in their transition to civilian life. We owe our veterans more than our memories, "he said.
At 12:30 pm, people walked the streets of downtown to encourage veterans participating in the parade of American heroes. It started at Dallas Street and Bagby Street.
Hundreds of veterans organizations, military and vehicles, associations and schools participated.
