Lil Peep's "Falling Down" and XXXTentacion – which was released Wednesday – is a controversial, complicated and potentially cathartic version, depending on your point of view. The song is the first collaboration between two rappers, both deceased young, and have never worked together during their lives. In August, the rapper and singer from Portland iLoveMakonnen announced that a song of the two deceased artists was imminent. Last year, Makonnen and Lil Peep were working together on an album in London that was never completed. One of the unfinished songs from these sessions was "Sunlight on your skin". XXL maintenanceMakonnen described how "Sunlight on your skin" became "Falling Down".
"It was the Lil Peep session in London where we were working on our album there …"[X] ended up dying, and his mother and family contacted Peep's management and everyone said that the song was something that [X] was very passionate before he went on and he would really like to be part of that and [asked] if we could do it. That's why Peep and I were doing music to bring people together. "
Later in the interview, the "Tuesday" singer described how he thinks the XXX and Peep's mother is involved in the release.
"I really think it was like the mothers' wish," he continued. "[X] had just been tragically kidnapped and Peep died too. I think it's something that both mothers have in common. The two losing children who were both influential in music. One of them wanted to grow the other one before moving on. Mothers have the last word because they are their children at the end of the day. I think that they make it bigger for more fans than for themselves. I think it'll end everyone with some healing.
During the interlude of the song, one could hear Onfroy talking about Peep.
"As if I knew he was too cool and it was as if you had watched interviews earlier, man, we looked a lot like each other," says rapper "SAD! "It's a shame because it's like, when people die, it's when you're there, you know? "Because your remorse is driving you out."
Lil Peep's collaborators shared their views following the release of the song, via genius. GothBoiClique's producer, Fish Narc, shared his impressions on Instagram Stories:
"Peep has never heard of Triple X because it was made only after it was gone," said Fish. "He explicitly rejected Triple X for his abuse of women. He spent time and money removing Triple X songs from his Spotify playlist and would not have co-signed this song. "
In one tweet deleted sinceLil Tracy, a Peep employee, said, "They have never even been friends.
XXXTentacion was shot dead in June at 20 years old. Peep is dead in November 2017 at age 21, result of a drug overdose.
