Sotheby's is auctioning lunar rocks that are expected to yield a million dollars. This is only the second time that lunar rocks are legally purchased.
The three tiny rocks are the only fragments of the moon that have ever been possessed by individuals. The samples from the moon were captured by an unmanned Soviet spacecraft in 1970.
When the rocks were sold for the first time in 1993, they were purchased at a price of $ 442,500. The United States considers that the materials of the moon (collected during the Apollo mission) are the property of the government.
