Meghan Markle has already been the subject of many royal premieres, but she has added another to her growing list on Thursday: she has brought her mother, Doria Ragland, to her first royal hosting event.
Doria joined Prince Harry in accompanying Meghan to Kensington Palace for a celebration marking the publication of Together: Our Community Cookbook, which the Duchess of Sussex helped to create for the benefit of the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy. Doria met with members of Hubb's community kitchen and beamed as Meghan spoke about how women welcomed her.
Doria told the guests that she was "distraught" about the accomplishment of her daughter.

Although Meghan has only been married to Harry for a few months, she is already changing things by bringing her mother back to her royal life.
Kate Middleton's mother, Carole Middleton, has stayed mostly behind the scenes. Although she is often seen at major events such as the royal wedding of Meghan and Harry in May and her grandson, Prince Louis's baptism in July, she never joined her daughter and her daughter. son, Prince William, for business.
Of course, that does not mean that Carole was not embraced by the royal family. In 2016, Kate's family was able to discover a favorite place: the Scottish Balmoral Castle. Queen Elizabeth was seen driving her Range Rover as she was driving Carole out for a picnic on a late summer getaway at the Highland Refuge. Families took advantage of one of their favorite hobbies, a campaign session.

The royal family also welcomed Doria. After Prince Charles led Meghan to the alley during his royal wedding, he escorted the bride's mother to the steps of St. George's Chapel after the ceremony.
In many ways, the two royal mothers-in-law are very similar. Both are fitness fanatics – Carole is a tennis fan, often thrilled by the athletes at Wimbledon, while Doria worked as a yoga teacher in Los Angeles and ran the L.A. Marathon.
Of course, both also share that their families have been put in the spotlight because of their daughters' relationships.

An area where the two women differ? Their style!
Carole and Kate sometimes borrow from each other in the cupboards, especially in the hats section! Carole is a big fan of designer Catherine Walker, choosing her outfits for the wedding of her daughter Pippa Middleton last year, as well as the weddings of Meghan and Harry in May.

Meanwhile, Doria often shows her sense of boho chic fashion. For the event on Thursday, she went with a beige set from head to toe, topping off a pair of pants and the top with a shoulder strap resting on her shoulders.
Like Carole and Kate, Doria's style has influenced her daughter.
"As I get older, I think you feel more confident and you do not have to work so hard to throw your hair in that very French way," said Meghan. Charm in 2017. "If your outfit is on the point, one thing must be done for you to look perfect."
