The New England Patriots suffered their first loss of the year to the Kansas City Chiefs with a 43-40 shootout win, which was arguably the best match of the 2018 NFL season to date. .
With Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs lighting up the dashboards every week and the Patriots recently, it turned out it would be a match not to be missed. Apparently, the only person who did not care about the pre-game excitement was Bill Belichick, who treated the match with his usual bad mood.
But for all those who counted for Sunday evening football match, leaders against patriots have been up to it.
The fourth quarter alone scored 30 points as the Chiefs rallied after a 24-9 deficit at half-time to tie the game in the final minutes. But with a final practice three minutes from time, Tom Brady led the Patriots to a 4-2 record by setting a goal for Stephen Gostkowski.
Here's how the last quarter of the Patriots' major victory unfolded:
The Chiefs' next player helped give them their first lead of the second half
De'Anthony Thomas was placed in the injured reserve during the weekend, leaving the Chiefs without the number 1 kicker. Fortunately, they have an incalculable number of men to return absurdly fast.
Meet rookie Tremon Smith, a sixth round pick from Central Arkansas:
97 yards later, the leaders were about to take the lead. The third and first goal, Mahomes lobbed him into the end zone and either toppled Kareem Hunt, or his physical connection with Tyreek Hill knew the receiver would slip:
It was the Chiefs' first lead since their 3-0 win early in the first quarter.
A Tom Brady TD was apparently helped by Breeland Speaks dodging a penalty
Now, at 33-30, the Patriots needed an answer and oh yes, they had Tom Brady. Chris Hogan scored two goals in a row by scoring a goal and a goal. On the third run, Brady could not find an open catcher and concealed it before fleeing, giving him the impression of tackling the goal line.
Then, the recruit of the Breeland chiefs speaks in one way or another … let him out of his embrace:
Brady, 41, is crushed in the end zone for his second hurried run touchdown of the year.
It seemed weird at the time – not just Brady's racing style. It was almost as if Speaks had dropped because he did not want to be penalized.
Not only almost. Frankly, Speaks said after the match that it was exactly what had happened:
# Heads LB Breeland Speaks said he believed Tom Brady had already thrown the ball in TD and was worried about the new rules protecting the passer. "It was definitely in my mind. That sucks. Will he change his approach in the future? "Yes, I have to finish the game next time."

It probably would not have mattered anyway. The Chiefs were called to stay in the game, which would give the Patriots the first goal at 2. But this shows just how much the NFL rule imposing the continual shift continues to affect the game of defensive players.
Gronk armed with a defender of chiefs in the dust
Rob Gronkowski did his best, Vance McDonald, when he put Ron Parker, Chief Safety Officer, on the field with a 42-yard win. Gronkowski did not score a touchdown like McDonald's, but he still put the Patriots in the lineup in a tight game.
The Patriots did not get much from training after the win – they had 4 yards in their next three games before settling for a spot that allowed them to score 40-33 with just over three minutes to play.
Mahomes and Hill responded immediately with a 75-yard touchdown
These are the pieces that excited people about the rapprochement between Mahomes and Hill. Mahomes has the talent to perform each pitch on the field and Hill is the most dangerous man with the ball in the hands of the NFL.
This helped that Hill was wide open on the game – there was no Patriots defenseman within 5 yards of him at the point of attack.
Once Hill caught him, he was gone for the races. He overtook Duron Harmon, the Patriots' security guard, and scored the touchdown that tied the game at 40.
Brady, however, had the last laugh.
Brady did what Brady did to frost him
Earlier this week, we asked if Mahomes or Brady was the best quarterback to have a chance of winning a victorious victory in 2018. The scenario came into being in the fourth quarter with both quarterbacks and huge games.
But the king of returns is Brady for over ten years and he has shown that he is still worthy of the crown.
After Mahomes' 75-yard touchdown on Hill, Brady had just over three minutes to go to Kansas City and set up a Gostkowski range. He looked easy with 7-yard and 16-yard finishes before returning to Gronkowski once again for a decisive 39-yard gain:
The last game allowed Gostkowski to score 28 times, consolidating Brady's 43rd win in the regular season. It was also Brady's 200th win in the regular season and the first time an NFL game ended on a score of 43-40:
THIS IS SCORIGAMI!
43-40 is a final score that has never happened in an NFL game, until now

It's hard to hit Mahomes for his impressive end of the match, but Brady still has ice in his veins and he slammed the door when he had the opportunity.
The match between the leaders and the patriots seemed to be the game of the week and he was up to it. January is still far away, but we would be lucky if we could watch a rematch in the playoffs.
