Golfers in St. Petersburg, Florida, were shocked to see a huge rattlesnake crawl on the course.

Logan Ungerer and a few friends were playing golf on the Mangrove Bay golf course on Columbus Day when Ungerer "saw what looked like a stick in the wind," according to Fox 13.

EXTREMELY RARE & # 39; OPEN & # 39; BEEHIVE IN VIRGINIA STUNS WILDLIFE EXPERT

Looking closer, he realized that it was not a stick at all, but a snake.

David Steen, a conservation biologist, said the creature was probably a diamond-backed rattlesnake, according to the Tampa Bay Times. The Diamondbacks would be the largest venomous snake in North America, up to eight feet long, according to National Geographic.

Steen called the observation "unusual".

"Snakes are usually secret creatures that have no interest in interacting with people, so it's unusual to see a snake like this in the open on a golf course," Steen said. "It is likely that the rattlesnake was simply observed during a trip from one forest plot to another."

Ungerer's video went viral and was shared by publications across the country.

Ungerer told Fox 13 that the experience was "exhilarating".

"It's not every day that you see a huge rattlesnake on a Florida green," he added.
