Hundreds of people attend the funeral prayers of flooded firefighters

SHAH ALAM: More than 500 people attended funeral prayers at the Section 15 Fire and Rescue Station for six divers who drowned during a search and rescue mission to Puchong last night.

Family members, firefighters and first aiders, senior officials and several leaders attended the prayers held around 9 am.

Among those present were Selangor State Executive Advisor and Seri Serdang MP, Dr. Siti Mariah Mahmud; The Secretary General of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek; The Director General of the Department of Fire and Rescue, Mohamad Hamdan Wahid; and Tan Sri Noh Omar, former Minister of Housing and Local Government.

The six men drowned after being caught in a whirlwind in an attempt to find a teenager who had slipped into a mining basin at Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong. Their bodies were brought to the fire station at 8:40 am today by Serdang Hospital.

The funeral prayers were led by Mohd Luqman Ramli, director of the religious unit of the Putrajaya Fire and Rescue headquarters.
