The cast of Birds of prey finally has more to report than the rumors and "Margot Robbie returns under the name of Harley Quinn".

The deadline confirms that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell have emerged victorious from the competitive casting process; both signed for the DC film directed by Cathy Yan. Robbie, of course, already played the character of Harley Quinn in 2016 Suicide team.

Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Scott Pilgrim vs. the world) will play the huntress. Smollett-Bell (Underground, The HBO series by Jordan Peele Lovecraft Country) will be Black Canary. Variety adds:

There are several versions of Huntress, aka Helena Bertinelli, through DC Comics, but the "Birds of Prey" version is a former mafia princess who was devastated at a young age when her family was killed. and finally bring it to join the team of birds of prey. Black Canary, aka Dinah Lance, is a good-humored and idealistic streetfighter in comics.

According to Deadline, he is still indeterminate who will play Rene Montoya, a policeman from Gotham City. It is apparently Justina Machado and Roberta Colindrez, although we have heard Cassandra Cain of DC play a role.

Birds of prey, with a story by Christina Hodson, is scheduled for February 7, 2020.
