Hurricane Florence "Truth Control Page" by Donald Trump Retweet Backfires

On Friday morning, Trump faced new reactions of hostility and accusations of hypocrisy after retweeting a publication of the Federal Emergency Management Agency linked to his "rumor control page" "To dispel the false news about Hurricane Florence.

The storm hit the Carolinas at about the same time.

"During disasters, it is essential to avoid spreading false information," FEMA wrote in its message. "Always check with official sources before sharing."

The tweet was one of 15 Florence-related articles by government agencies that Trump retweeted Friday afternoon. He shared the link to the "Rumors Control Page", which reverses myths about issues such as access of service animals to shelters or whether sand beach can be used for sandbags, at its 54 million faithful.

However, the retweet was too much for many people on Twitter to support – given Trump's promotion of the Puerto Rican lie 24 hours earlier:
