(Reuters) – Hyundai Motor Co (005380.KS) and its subsidiary Kia Motors Corp. (000270.KS) plan to launch solar charge technology for some Hyundai vehicles to meet global emissions targets, South Korean automakers announced Wednesday.
Solar panels will be mounted on the roof or hood of vehicles, announced companies.
The companies are launching three solar charging systems for several types of vehicles, including hybrid and battery powered vehicles.
In recent years, several countries have set ambitious targets to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides, allowing automakers and truck manufacturers to be more closely monitored .
Hyundai is expected to launch the first generation of this technology for its vehicles after 2019.
