The Los Angeles Lakers are set to open their season Thursday in Portland and the NBA world will be watching the new Lakers.
But Charles Barkley does not expect the Lakers to compete in the West this year – even adding LeBron could not change it.
The TNT analyst and the NBA Hall of Famer have joined The Dan Patrick Show Wednesday, and he questioned the direction taken by the Lakers to merge the veteran group of the Odd-Ball Team with their younger core composed of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma.
Barkley said:
"What kind of team are they? Will they let these young guys play or will they send these old guys there? That's why I did not understand because these old people are not their future. Ball, Kuzma, Brandon Ingram, it's their future. So, I do not know what the Lakers do. Will they try to train these young guys and go ahead with LeBron, or will they play these old guys? I think it will be the most fascinating thing. I mean, I have no idea what the Lakers are doing. Does it mean a young team or an old team? I think that's what I'm going to watch more closely. "
On Tuesday, Barkley said the Lakers would not compete at the top of the West, even choosing the Spurs, Nuggets and Thunder before the Lakers-led team led by LeBron.
As we know, however, Barkley has already been deceived in his predictions.
