The Trump Administration has arrested dozens of undocumented migrants who offer to host immigrant children – and a significant number of these arrests involved immigration violations rather than criminal activities.
Tuesday, the head of immigration and customs, Matthew Albence, said that following a joint note between ICE and health and human services released in June, officials conducted background checks
Since the publication of the memo, Albence has stated that ICE has arrested 41 potential sponsors.
"Nearly 80% of people who are sponsors or household members of sponsors are here in the country illegally, and a large part of them are criminal aliens," Albence said. "So we continue to pursue these people."
A CNN follow-up survey found that 70% of these arrests involved immigration violations. ICE told the network that only 12 of these 41 arrests were labeled "criminal arrests" and the other 29 were considered non-criminal or "administrative" arrests.

The Trump Administration stated that the purpose of this note was to fill a loophole that encourages parents to send their unaccompanied children to the southern border and to ensure the safety of these children when they are placed in a family. But advocates of immigration and civil rights have argued that this could have a chilling effect on the number of people willing to welcome and care for immigrant children, which means that one More children need to stay in government-run households.
Critics also feared that this policy would have a deterrent effect on the willingness of family members to come forward and claim their children, adding to the chaos of the process of reuniting migrant parents with minors.
