TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Everyone's farting. It's only natural. But, not everyone lets the air blow freely from its bottom all the time and this can be problematic.
New research shows that shaking your cheeks against each other will not get rid of the stinky problem. In fact, it can only let the air smell escape elsewhere.
Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics, University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Clare Collins has written an essay for The Conversation explaining a new phenomenon on gas.
Holding a flatulent does not make it disappear, explained the self-proclaimed "Fart-Expert".
Apparently, the gas can be reabsorbed into the bloodstream, with which nowhere to go, will eventually escape from your mouth.
Professor Collins gave this mortifying warning:
Trying to hold it back causes increased pressure and major discomfort.
An accumulation of intestinal gas can trigger abdominal distention, with some gases reabsorbed into the circulation and exhaled in your breathing. Holding too long means that intestinal gas buildup will eventually escape through an uncontrollable fart.
Research does not know if increasing pressure in your rectum increases your chances of developing a condition called diverticulitis, where small pockets develop in the intestinal lining and become inflamed – or not important at all.
The teacher said that you could do something to remedy the situation. Move to a more acceptable location and let it rip.
"The best thing for your digestive health is to simply give up," said the professor.
Because one way or another, the nauseating breath will escape you.
