A political event in a synagogue in Brooklyn, New York, hosted by comedian and actress "Broad City," Ilana Glazer, was canceled Thursday night after a rally found anti-Semitic messages such as "The Jews, better be ready "on the walls.
The rally discovered graffiti on the second and fourth floors of the Union Temple, in the Prospect Heights neighborhood, around 8 pm. AND, New York Police Department, said Lt. Thomas Antonetti.
The messages read as follows: "The Jewish rats we are here", "Rose" and "Hitler".
"We will have other events soon, thank you for coming and following your curiosity, it is an action in itself, a gathering, and we will continue with more specific action," Glazer said. to the crowd in an Instagram video posted by a participant.
Hateful scribbles arrive less than a week after 11 people were killed in the Pittsburgh Synagogue by the alleged gunman Robert Bowers, who opened fire during a Sabbath celebration on October 27th.
Glazer was supposed to host a conference titled The Generator Series on the importance of voting in the Tuesday election with journalist Amy Goodman and Senate candidates Andrew Gounardes and Jim Gaughran.
Gounardes issued a statement following the cancellation, noting that anti-Semitic graffiti recalled that prejudice was still prevalent in the community.
"More than ever, we have an obligation to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance and send a clear message that any individual or group that promotes violence and hatred is not the welcome to our city, "he said.
The police are currently reviewing the surveillance video and are looking for an adult man who, in their opinion, is the suspect. The hate crime unit also investigates the incident.
