The death of a pregnant woman killed during a crossbow attack in her own home has "shocked people at the grassroots," said a deputy.

Sana Muhammad, 35, died Monday after the Ilford attack in east London, but her unborn son was delivered without incident.

Wes Streeting, MP for Ilford North, told Parliament that his death had left people shocked "up and down the country".

Prime Minister Theresa May said the crossbow laws would be reconsidered after the death of Ms. Muhammad.

Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 50, with no fixed address, has been charged with the murder of Ms. Muhammad and is scheduled to appear Thursday in front of the Old Bailey.

Addressing the Prime Minister's questions, Mr. Streeting said: "I know that I will speak on behalf of all members of this House, expressing our deepest condolences to the family and our best wishes to the baby for a prompt recovery.

"Given that these weapons, like the crossbow, used to kill my elector are easily sold online, can I urge the Prime Minister to seriously consider extending the offensive weapons bill in order to strengthen, possess and use these lethal weapons ".

Ms. May responded by saying that the crossbows were "under strict control", but that the government "would consider the risk to public safety and determine if further action is needed".

Offers of assistance to Ms. Muhammad's family, including a promise to cover funeral expenses, were received from the community.

Jas Athwal, chairman of the Redbridge Board, said the authority would support the family "as long as it is needed".

Nearly £ 3,000 was also collected via a "Go Fund Me" page, which describes Ms. Muhammad's death as "unimaginable".

Mohamed Omer of the cemetery and funeral company Gardens of Peace said: "The entire Muslim community and the entire community of Redbridge is in shock at what has happened.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

"In order to help them cope, we inform Sana Muhammad's family of the need not to worry about funeral costs because we will cover them."

Police said that the victim and the suspect knew each other

Ms. Muhammad was assaulted in front of her five other children in the family home on Applegarth Road, said her husband, Imtiaz Muhammad, at the Evening Standard.

She was taken to hospital with an abdominal injury and her death was pronounced at 11:00 GMT, less than four hours after the attack.

However, her son was delivered by caesarean section and "remains in stable condition in an intensive care unit," police said.

Councilor Athwal stated that he had requested an "urgent meeting" with the borough commander "to discuss security" in the Redbridge area.
