In a totally uninformed statement during an interview as part of a Fox News show hosted by business reporter Charles Payne, David Ward, a former ICE agent , mentioned the following theme:
"We have people from around the world with some of the most extreme medical care in the world. They arrive with diseases such as smallpox and leprosy and T.B. that will infect our people in the United States. "
A problem with this "expert" analysis – the last case of naturally acquired smallpox dates back to 1977 and the disease was officially declared eliminated from the planet in 1980.
I do not think smallpox is a risk, to say the least.
Reflections on the eliminator of smallpox: "You can say that it can save more lives than any other human being in human history"
Ward also mentions leprosy. Not a particularly contagious disease (95% of people are resistant to infections) and very easy to treat with antibiotics.
With regard to tuberculosis, it already exists in the United States and can be treated with antibiotics. Like leprosy, there is no need to provoke fear and panic.
Irresponsible statement by a former ICE officer and a host who did not do his job by calling him.
It does not help anything.
