Not to be more depressing in these already depressing times, but the late Stephen Hawking said that there was "no possibility" of God in our universe. In other words, we are alone and we can only blame ourselves for atrocities like this and this one.
In Hawking's latest book, Brief answers to major questions, published Tuesday, the theoretical physicist and cosmologist, who was smart enough to be played by Eddie Redmayne in the movie of his life, addressed one of the oldest and most difficult questions of lifeIs there a God? His answer: a resounding no.
"There is no God, no one is leading the universe," he wrote, according to CNN.
This answer is disconcerting to believers, but they may feel comforted knowing that Hawking does not think we are completely alone in the universe. He wrote that there are "intelligent life forms in the world". They are simply not "God" in the Judeo-Christian-Muslim sense of the word.
The famous author died earlier this year at the age of 76, leaving his last book unfinished. Hawking's family and his colleagues worked religiously to complete the manuscript with the help of his archives. The purpose of the book was to collect Hawking's answers to the questions he asked most often to the requesters.
