Previously, researchers thought that the giant herbivore in Europe from this period was a dinosaur.

Polish and Swedish scientists discovered remains of dicynodont Lisowicia bojani, which were the size of an elephant. As stated in the online edition of Chronicle.info with a reference to zn.ua members, this herbivore animal grew from the lower body and was not located on the sides like the others reptiles, which allowed him to move faster.

Dicynodontes (Dicynodontia) – herbivorous synapsid, ancestors of modern mammals that lived in the Permian (298.9 million years ago) early Jurassic (190.8 million years ago) in the world. It should be noted that before the start of the Jurassic period, no ancestral group of herbivorous mammals exceeded the height of half a meter, while some herbivorous dinosaurs reached 15 m in height and weighed about 10 tons.

Now scientists have found the remains of dicynodont, which weighed about 9 tons. The length of his body reached 4.5 meters and a height greater than 2.5.

Have Lisowicia bojani was the right hind limb, as in other dicynodontes, and the anterior right paws, located under the body, in the manner of modern rhinos. Dicynodontes of the Triassic were known from the production of the forelegs only in the form of reptiles – elbows divorced by hand. These changes allow you to travel faster, reducing the load on the joint and increasing the energy efficiency of the limbs.
