A day after LSU's Wayde Sims basketball player was shot dead, Baton Rouge police held a press conference on Saturday, September 29 at 10 am to announce the arrest of Dyteon Simpson.

The police indicted Simpson, 20, for second degree murder after DNA evidence linked him to the crime. The arrest took place on Friday night, police said.

Police said that Sims was beaten to help a friend who was fighting with Simpson. In the fight, Simpson dropped his glasses. These glasses were tested for DNA and contributed to the arrest, the police said.

Sims, a 20-year-old forward from Baton Rouge, was fatally injured early Friday in block 600 Harding Blvd., near Southern University.

Police broadcast a video of the incident Friday, asking for information about a person dressed in a gray shirt and red pants with a white stripe on his leg. WAFB television was among the media reporting Saturday that an arrest had been made.
