UDINE, Italy – Cristiano Ronaldo has asked his Juventus teammates to stay alone.
In spite of all that it entailed – accused of rape nine years ago – the football superstar wanted space to celebrate his goal on Saturday in front of a television camera.
He jumped into the air with an emphatic double-sided pump, as he often scored his goals, and then let his team-mates congratulate him.
Ronaldo's powerful tipped goal, the second of the match and the fourth of the season, was met with applause and fools in the Italian league match at Udinese's home. Ronaldo and Juventus won 2-0.
A little over a week ago, Kathryn Mayorga filed a civil lawsuit in Nevada, claiming that she had been raped by Ronaldo in Las Vegas in 2009. The police reopened an investigation. Ronaldo denied the accusation.
Ronaldo played last for Juventus last weekend in Serie A, but in the middle of the week, he missed a match in the Champions League because of an automatic suspension of the red card and was not retained by the Portuguese team for the next international matches.
Once again available for Juventus on Saturday, Ronaldo's mother, Maria Dolores Aveiro, sent a message to her son on Instagram: "Good luck, my son and your team, because together we are stronger."
Some Juventus fans present at the match expressed their support for Ronaldo.
