Some talents emerge and change the game forever.
Jim Brown's combination of size, speed and athleticism has set the standard for everyone who has followed. Lawrence Taylor revolutionized the way to rush and protect the smuggler. The cerebral approach of Peyton Manning made it possible to specify the preparation of the quarterbacks and the level of responsibility imposed on the position.
Patrick Mahomes is redefining our vision of the game's most important position.
His breathtaking performance Monday in the Kansas City Chiefs 27-23 win over Denver Broncos rival Mile High Stadium only boosted his ascendancy.
The evolution of professional football is oriented 100% towards quarterbacks and offensive games. As a result, widely open passage attacks have become the norm. As an NFL network Bucky Brooks Noted on Twitter, 13 different callers pitched for more than 300 yards last weekend, with 24 receivers eclipsing 100 yards. In addition, the league recorded 227 touchdowns in four weeks of play.–an NFL record–before the leaders and Broncos even took the field.
Mahomes has already set a record with 13 touchdowns in the first three weeks.
He is now the standard bearer of what other franchises want from this position, as his playing is not limited to being a mere facilitator working within the Chiefs offensive structure at Alex Smith.
Instead, the sophomore wrestler brings an exciting football brand that replaces traditional approaches, even if he does not play flawless football. The period of Tom Brady and Drew Brees is coming to an end. The spread-type propagation offenses with built-in pocket movement, pass-through options, zone readings, numerous sliding screens and anti-smoke channels, as well as the massive use of multi-receptor receivers make it possible to stage game as much as brain killers, who work best from inside the pocket.
The entire Mahomes repertoire came into play 10 points behind the Broncos, 12:47 in the fourth quarter after failing to set a pace in the first period. In the last two Kansas City orders, Mahomes made 13 of 16 passes for a 157-yard gain.
Its overall effectiveness at a critical moment is actually less impressive than the quarterback's natural play displayed in crucial situations.
Mahomes was constantly avoiding pressure as his offensive line seemed to be synchronized. His ability to create outside the pocket is something to behold, and the NFL has seen nothing like it for a long time, according to ESPN Stats & Information:

Patrick Mahomes threw for 192 yards tonight, the highest number of passing yards in the past 10 seasons.
Two examples can be found on these latest records, and they best sum up how the Chiefs quarterback mocks the game.
A strong time will be played again and again in the coming days. Does everyone know that Mahomes is ambidextrous? The Broncos of Denver either. Von Miller, the 23-year-old signalman, traded hands and sent the ball to Tyreek Hill for a crucial conversion for the third try with just over three minutes left to keep the Chiefs alive. :
Four pieces later, the Chiefs found themselves facing another third on the floor while they were looking for a win. No problem. Mahomes' blind pressure drove the quarterback to his right, where he threw a tight-end rope, Demetrius Harris:
"I knew that if I could give my receiver time to open, I could throw it at him and play games," Mahomes told reporters. "When you play defenses like this one in one of the most hostile environments of this league, it becomes more challenging to face adversity and win a victory."
Mahomes is at his absolute best when he goes wild and plays good old football, just as Brett Favre did during his illustrious career.
The difference is that the chiefs do not worry about the dominance of Mahomes, as Mike Holmgren had done with his quarterback at the Hall of Fame. Kansas City knew exactly what that meant when the team chose their face.
Chief Executive Officer Brett Veach, who is far from the widespread panic of past years, said that his team had not even considered the type of offense against which Mahomes was playing. Texas Tech before being traded against him for the 10th overall pick in 2017, " The ring Kevin Clark reported. "They just evaluated the player's skills."
The Chiefs play with the strengths of their quarter instead of trying to integrate it into a specific program. Mahomes played in a formidable variant of the Texas Tech air raid. He always does it, sort of. Mahomes has been particularly effective with five receivers, according to Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus:

Adaptability is the name of the game.
The leaders are well ahead of the other offenses around the league. The coaching team allows the prodigiously talented quarterback to be himself in a system with game rules tailored to his skills and the freedom to capitalize on his outstanding free style abilities.
Mahomes is unique. His elite talent, athleticism and intelligence provide him with the complete ensemble. Other organizations can not replicate someone so gifted. They should not try either.
But others can take a similar approach by building their systems around their quarterbacks and allowing them to do more, even if it means simplifying things.
Even after Mahomes looked human for half, her superpowers turned on her again to provide the NFL with the hero she needed.
