CLEVELAND – The Detroit Tigers will complete this 0-in-Ohio road trip.
The Cleveland Indians finished a decisive sweep Sunday afternoon, beating the 12-2 Tigers at the progressive stage.
The Tigers (36-42) have lost five games in a row, a sequence in which they were dominated 40-11 by both teams in the league, the Indians and the Cincinnati Reds.
Detroit is now 3-10 this season against the Indians (43-33), who have won seven straight games. The tribe dominated the 26-3 Tigers this weekend.
The icy Tigers bats did little damage against Trevor Bauer on Saturday; but they managed a bit more against beginners Shane Bieber on Friday and Adam Plutko on Sunday.
The Tigers scored two goals in the RBI quarterfinals by Niko Goodrum and James McCann, but were stopped by Plutko, who did not give up one free pass all afternoon.
Matthew Boyd started his second tough start and allowed six runs on eight hits, two walks and three steals (three in three consecutive innings).
Artie Lewicki launched five rounds of relief, sparing the tigers' stress.
The Tigers lost 10 in a row at Progressive Field, including all seven games this year. They have lost 23 of their last 29 games since June 24, 2015.
The Indians are now assured of winning the season series with the Tigers for the third consecutive season; they have 37-13 against the Tigers during this period.
They do not see the Indians again until July 27th and they do not have to return to Cleveland until September 14th.
